To upgrade their gear players must first identify the appropriate item, and then click on the “level up” button. The menu will appear that shows the item's current status and what it will be after being upgraded and the required amount of Growth Stones to achieve this. The amount of Growth Stones needed to upgrade an item will depend on its rarity. Most often rare (blue) weapons require more than one green Growth Stone to reach their next level, while uncommon armor requires just one blue or green Growth Stone. After deciding on what to upgrade, players must select the number of green Growth Stones they wish to use and pay the appropriate cost. The requirements for upgrading an item will vary based on the kind of item however, generally you'll require Dilithium and a number of Upgrade Tokens (various options are available). The upgrade item s can be used to make sets and weapons for added effects or a higher item level. These upgrades can come from a variety of sources, such as crafting, buying at the Trading Post, karma vendors or looting during bosses and raids. Once an upgrade component is added to an object it isn't able to be removed or replaced. However it is possible to swap glyphs freely. Upgrading an item can increase its Mark Level and/or Rarity. Some upgrade components come with additional modifiers that can improve the item's stats. For instance, the helm upgrade “Foundation of the Sun” increases base defense, and adds an extra 20% chance to block. Additionally, the dps upgrade “Wildfire” increases weapon damage. Certain items benefit from being upgraded less for their increased stats and more for the fact that it lets players get the most value out of a perfect roll on the item.
